The How And The Why

By Danny Woodall

Feathers have always created problems for evolutionist. Of course this isn’t surprising since the complexity of a single cell is another hurdle for evolution. It is interesting to study God’s creation and to think about how he did it. However in our search we often over look the reason why he did it.

Imagine if God came to MIT to give a lecture on how he created the earth. As he walked into the room, the staid classroom would shine with the glory of God. Everyone in the room would have to wear sunglasses. Suppose he told us the exact temperature at the time of Creation. Then he wrote on the blackboard the formula of His breath He breathed into Adam. He then followed this up with an extended question and answer session. After all of this, would we be any smarter?

Probably not, we would only have more questions. The Bible gave us a general overview of how God created the universe because that is all we need. God is still God whether we understand how He created the earth or not. I believe the greatest proof of God is a starry night. I can’t imagine how anyone could think the stars just happened, or that we evolved from some type of chemical soup. Most of the people who say they believe in evolution have a problem with God and are trying to hide it.

They try so hard to solve the how they overlook the why. God created us so we could have a relationship with him and bring Him glory. There isn’t any cosmic law that says since God created us, he has to love us. He did it because he wanted to.

The greatest truth in the Bible is God loves us. Everything else flows from the fact he loves us. Even though he knows us inside and out, he still loves us. We didn’t earn His love but He loves us anyway.

As Christians, other issues can often sidetrack us. We sometimes become modern-day Pharisees. We want to make sure people do it our way. We become more concerned about the music and the order of worship that we forget whom we are worshipping. We try to force God into our box.

While we squabble, a world is going to Hell. Love is sacrificed for tradition. When Jesus was asked which commandment was the greatest. He replied, “Love the Lord your God with all of your heart, with all of your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and most important commandment. The second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the prophets depend on these two commandments.” (Matthew 22:37-40)

Both of these commandments contain the word love. Love is the key. Love is not a throw up your hands and let everybody do what they want attitude. Instead we first begin to love God with everything. Realizing that Christ gave His all for us, we should give our all to Him. Then we treat others how we want to be treated. When we apply guidelines, they should be biblical. We shouldn’t be like the Pharisees, who added their own traditions to the Law and considered them just as important to God’s Word.

Love is what gives life to Christianity. When we serve out of love for God, we find it easier to live for Christ. Otherwise we soon give up trying to follow Christ because we cannot live a Christian life on our own. Because he loves us, is the answer to the why. I do not understand how he created the world, but I know he did. I’m much more interested in where I’m going than how I got here.

The greatest question we have to answer is not how God created the universe? Instead it is how we respond to his love. Do we accept his gift of salvation or do we reject it and face the consequences for eternity. The fact that God loved us is more amazing than the fact he created the universe.
